Random Eats

Many moons ago we were faced with a common problem, choosing a place to eat. I’m not sure who’s idea it was, but someone suggested we needed a way to select a restaurant at random. So I wrote a little program to do just that. It was initially written to run on my cell phone, then later rewritten for the truckputer. Later, I added support for multiple cities and a second program to ease the creation of lists.

The funny thing is that after all of that work, the program was only used a couple of times.

I’m making the program available for download, along with the source code. Also included are the city files I used for testing. It’s in Java, so you’ll need to install the JRE if you don’t already have it.

I’ve tested it quite a bit, but I’m sure there are still bugs to be found. Keep in mind that this most recent version was created for use on a small touch screen monitor.

Newness

If you have eyes you’ve probably noticed that things look a little different. And if you look closer you’ll see that I’ve switched from LifeType to Drupal. I was never a huge fan of LifeType. The only reason I used it in the first place was because my host had it pre-loaded. My intentions were to try it out for a little while and then move on to something else. “A little while” turned into two years.

A direct migration from LifeType to Drupal wasn’t easily doable. I actually had to install WordPress, import all the posts from LifeType, and then import from WordPress into Drupal. I had to manually enter all the comments. It was a lot of work, but it didn’t really take that long.

While I was at it, I imported what I considered to be the 20 best posts out of over 160 entries from my old MindSay blog that preceded this site. Why 20? That’s the most I could import at one time. Now you can go back and read 3 to 4 year old posts about zombies, head shaving, and some of my run ins with ‘Suzy Q’.

You’ll also see a few ads now. I don’t think they’re too obtrusive.

Odd eBay Items

Turtle Boy Turtle Boy

This thing is just creepy. The face looks like a Michael Myers mask. This may very well be the result of William Shatner mating with a tortoise.

Phallic Cheeto Phallic Cheeto

Personally, I don’t see it. But I guess anyone with wang-on-the-brain will see it right off.

Barbie Crack House Barbie Crack House

You have to read the description on this one.

Xmas Wishlist 2007

Halloween has passed, and Thanksgiving is right around the corner. That can only mean one thing. Time to get started on my annual Christmas Wishlist.

#1. Blendtec Total Blender. The blender that will blend just about anything. Anything but Chuck Norris. Don’t breathe this.

#2. FPS Vest

#3. Deluxe modPod Egg Chair

I got a rock.

When I was a kid, Halloween wasn’t official until you had seen two things. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and Garfield’s Halloween Adventure (a.k.a. Garfield in Disguise). The former airs annually. Sadly, the same cannot be said of the latter. Fortunately, it can be found on DVD. I’m watching it right now.

Surprisingly, I haven’t had a single trick-or-treater tonight. Which is perfectly fine. All the more candy for me. I just have to remember which ones I put razor blades in.

When I was buying Halloween candy yesterday I found something interesting. Candy corn flavored Hershey’s Kisses. Candy corn is one of my favorites. I had to pick up a bag. They’re delicious. I’m going back tomorrow to pick up a couple more bags at the after-Halloween discount price.
